Share a group by link
Updated Jun 3, 2026
The fastest way to get everyone into your FairJar group is to share the invite link. A friend taps it, confirms their display name, and they’re in — no account or sign-up required.
Generate the invite link
- Open your group and tap Share (or the share icon in the group header).
- FairJar copies a link to your clipboard and opens your device’s share sheet.
- Send it via your messaging app of choice — WhatsApp, iMessage, Telegram, or any other.
What the link looks like
FairJar supports two link formats:
- Web format:
https://fairjar.app/g/CODE— works in any browser and on any platform. - Deep-link format:
fairjar://g/CODE— opens the FairJar app directly on devices that have it installed.
CODE is your group’s unique 6-letter identifier. The characters are chosen from an unambiguous set (no O, 0, I, or 1) so the code is always easy to read and type.
What the recipient sees
When your friend taps the link:
- If FairJar is installed, the app opens and shows a Join group confirmation screen with the group name.
- They type a display name (visible only to group members).
- They tap Join — done.
If FairJar isn’t installed yet, the link opens in the browser, prompts them to download the app, and then resumes the join flow automatically after install.
Manual code entry as a fallback
If the link doesn’t work (e.g. the message was forwarded in a way that broke the URL), anyone can join manually:
- Open FairJar and tap Join group.
- Type the 6-letter code exactly as shown.
- Confirm the name and tap Join.
The code is shown at the top of the group screen and in the share sheet, so you can always read it out or paste it as plain text.
Once everyone’s in, start tracking costs together — see Add an expense and split it to log your first shared bill.
